KARACHI: Sindh Assembly MPA Saifuddin Khalid on Wednesday said that he would not leave the assembly premises until water deficit in Orangi Town is eliminated.
“Residents of Orangi Town are deprived of potable water and the Sindh government is so poor that it cannot provide water to the citizens,” the MPA said.
He added that he has brought clothes and edibles with himself as he plans to remain within the assembly premises until the water crisis is resolved.
After the assembly session concluded on Friday, Khalid laid down on the floor and refused to move citing his reservations.
He demanded that the Sindh government provide water to Orangi Town residents and that the only way he would leave the place is if the speaker tells him to do so.
On the other hand, Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani has said that he would file a complaint against the lawmaker to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), since protesting within the assembly is against the law.
Earlier this month, Khalid had quit the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) in favour of Mustafa Kamal’s Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP).
