British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has hand over three important cabinet slots to British Indian Members of Parliament (MP). The PM on Thursday brought Rishi Sunak in place of Sajid Javid, who was the only British Pakistani and Muslim minister in the cabinet. The appointment of Rishi means that three most important ministries are being headed by the ministers who are of Indian origin as Priti Patel is working as Home Secretary, Alok Shama Business Secretary and Rishi Sunak as Chancellor of Exchequer.
Sajid Javid who was appointed as chancellor by the PM Johnson after winning general election last month by the conservative party. Javid, the son of Pakistani has been the poster boy of the party during the election campaign and but now was forced to leave the cabinet on Thursday after he developed differences with the Johnson over the PM’s adviser Dominic Cummings.
Javid said that he was left with no option but to resign because no-self-respecting minister could accept the Prime Ministers demands, which according to some source were to sack some of his aids which Javid refused to do.
With the departure of Sajid Javid, British Pakistanis and Muslims have no representation in the UK Cabinet which is made up of 80 percent of White British MP’s. The PM Johnson on Friday carried out a reshuffle of ministers however no Pakistani British MP from among the party has been appointed as minister to replace Javid reinforcing the perception that party did not feel the need to improve their relationships with British Muslims. Some Muslims in the UK have already expressed fears over their future under the Johnson government.
Some critics believes that Lack of representations of Muslims in the government would add to the sense about the party’s recent treatment of British Muslims in general. Last week, one of the Tories party MP Daniel Kawczynski attended a Racist conference in Rome and spoke alongside know Islamophobic leader from across the Europe which has disturbed the British Muslims and Muslim Council of Britain has urged the Europe Human rights commission to launch an independent review into Islamophobia in the Party, and look at all of its manifestations including tolerance for such hateful racism.
